Product Description

This stand-alone, all-audio course can be used by those who have little or no knowledge of the language, by those who want to learn or brush up basic conversation skills, and by more advanced learners who require extra audio material to complement their current courses.

The ten units or 'conversations' cover the situations you are most likely to find yourself in while on holiday or on business abroad. They are divided into two parts, with a dialogue in each part. The dialogue in Part 2 reuses the vocabulary and phrases from Part 1 in a slightly different context. Both parts start with an introduction to the words and phrases you'll need, followed by the dialogue. Finally it's 'Over to you': you take part in the same dialogues following the English prompts, playing all the roles in turn. So you get lots of opportunity to practise! Frequent track markers divide the CDs up into short, easy-to-use clips.

Vocabulary and phrases in the first two CDs are kept to the basics and are introduced gradually with lots of opportunity to repeat and practise, to improve your confidence in both speaking and understanding. The third CD concentrates on helping you improve your understanding, so that you will be able to hold two-way conversations with people who speak very fast or use words and phrases you do not know.

The course comes on three 75-minute CDs and has an accompanying 48-page booklet which gives the dialogues and the translations of the dialogues, for those who like to see the written word or want additional practice. The Hindi is transliterated into romanized script. The booklet also provides a basic glossary of the words and phrases used.

This is the perfect complement to 'Teach Yourself Hindi' and 'Teach Yourself Beginner's Hindi'.

I begun learning Hindi over 14 years ago and took the initiative to learn the Devanagari Script there and then. I bought an expensive Linguaphone Course and it really got me up and running.

Like all things though, my interest faded and every now and then I'd make an effort to crack on learning Hindi. A few years ago I came across the Teach Yourself Hindi pack, book and 2 CDs and my interest re-awakened. The TYH Courses are easier to grasp than the Linguaphone one, the latter of which came with 6 poorly recorded cassettes. Also, the grammar sections are a whole lot easier to grasp so I found myself progressing quite quickly.

However, I decided to buy this three CD set (Hindi Conversation) for the car and this has been an enormous help. Although I can picture the words as they are spoken (in the Devanagari script too) you don't really need to know how to read the written word in order to progress and ingest the course. I've sharpened up my pronounciation, come across a whole new library of conversation and I've surprised myself by how much I actually know!

The course is well arranged, the diction incredibly clear and the situations described in each unit are fun. You can learn Hindi with a smile on your face (and other drivers may look at you strangely!). Play the CDs over and over again and you cannot help but pick up everyday Hindi. Your friends will be amazed (as are mine every time I speak in Hindi/Urdu at our local curry house!).

This set along with the main Teach Yourself Hindi pack and, very useful, the accompanying dictionary - aimed at English speaking people learning Hindi (unlike other dictionaries) are all you need to become fluent in a most beautiful, accessible language. You'll have fun and you might even make a few new friends along the way!

Hindi Conversations 1 July 2005
Format:Hardcover
This is a superb course of spoken hindi - with plenty of grammatical pointers throughout. Whilst [naturally enough] it doesn't follow the step by step introduction to the language that the author's "Teach Yourself" books do, it does start you off on conversations that bear some relationship to those that you would wish to use early in a trip to the sub-continent.

Over two years I had accumalted a lots of Hindi books and resources with accompanying cds, tapes. And really never learnt much.
Having said that these Cds are ideal for complete learners and two of my friends have put the lessons to good use and they have never looked at a Hindi language book!
These CDs free you from learning lots of script. Or reading confusing roman script dotted with lots of symbols for different sounds.
They are totally independant; there is a little book that accompanies them but you dont have to use it at all for the exercises. The conversations are broken down and hints and tips are given throughout.
Also the conversations are quite fun and there are some funny gambits too.
There is a Teach yoursef Hindi book and Cd and beginners Hindi book and CD by the same people; but the conversations in this pack are injected with some humour and cover so many more situations than the aforementioned and any other resource out there.
The best thing about lessons on Cd is you can put them on your computer, Ipod and re listen again and again until you get it right.
If you want to learn Hindi you will make no mistake by purchasing this pack.
