This book is a serious contender for the best in the series.
It starts with advice about motivation and creating records of both diet and exercise, some of which are pretty concise and which I never adopted in their entirety, then proceeds to act as a personal trainer outlining routines and explaining exercise you can perform at home or the gym (I found the information about gym equipment to be particularly useful having recently joined a gym but possessing not much knowledge). The exercise which you can perform in the home is explained in terms of circuits and I believe would be really successful by itself, the three main domains of fitness considered are cardio fitness, strength and then stretching/flexibility and its great to read about how they are all important and compliment one another. The substitution of muscle for fat rather than simply "losing weight" as a goal was very informative.
The book is well illustrated besides the content, which is descriptive enough, in line drawings and is not like some lavishly illustrated or photo heavy productions in which the something besides simply sharing the knowledge is going on. There are contents, an index, references and contact details for health and fitness organisations at the finish, while I didnt contact any of these organisations the references did not appear to be obviously dated to me.
Really thought this book was simple and superb for anyone who is literally attempting to teach themselves fitness, its not so precise or over loaded as to deter anyone who is trying to get fit for their health and would be suitable for the complete beginner. No prior knowledge or experience is assumed by the author or needed by the reader.
