top class course 25 May 2011
By Bernard M. Abel VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
Sat sri Akal

Punjabi is amazing > Did you know that it s one of the few languages in India which uses a tone system.. Not as extended as in Chinese for instance, it is important enough as the same sound, pronounced with the incorrect tone will mean something totaly different from what you wanted to say.. and will either trigger a outcry of laughters or .. hmm.. an embarrassing silence.. so, If you buy any course in panjabi.. make sure you grab the recordings that go along .. that will help you a lot.
I started panjabi with the colloquial course, and to be honest... i swap to the teach yourself complete panjabi . I prefer that course for simple reasons.

1. Gurmukhi writing. This book will teach you panjabi writing at the same time as you learn the language, which is what i wanted to do.
2. the way the book is designed.. It is actually easy to use, provide vocabulary list and transliteration of every texts,An easy to follow grammar that wont require some advanced linguistic and semantic knowledges to be understood, plenty of exercices and introduce you to some of the panjabi culture.. All this is a book compact enough to be taken with you everywhere.
Sure, Panjabi is not an easy language {not as hard as Russian, French or icelandic or finnish, no worries..], but it can be tackled.. . Either with the Cds, or even better, especially if you have the chance to know some native panjabi speakers, or live near a Gurdwara [sikh temple], where you can always try your panjabi and trigger some very friendly smiles {sikhs are ever so friendly and their optimistic energy is contagious.]. and get an invitation to partake langar [free vegetarian meal served to everybody in gurdwaras.] while chatting about your interest of learning panjabi.... On top of that, the language gives you access to the Guru Grant Sahib, sikh holy book, and some others amazing writers that are worth to be known , even if they are not hindi writers..

That book makes the task of learning pleasant... not easier.. but fun.. and it works.. Don t be in a rush.. take your time and you ll be amazed at the result at the end..
