Product Description

Product Description

'Teach Yourself Beginner's Greek Script' starts from scratch and teaches you how to read and write the Greek alphabet correctly from the beginning. It will enable you to understand enough from signs, directions, instructions and even menus to be able to get by on your next visit to Greece. Throughout the book you will follow the progress of two travellers, Mike and Lisa, on their first trip to Greece as they get to grips with the Greek script. Together you will learn how to pronounce Greek words and write the alphabet. This new edition has been completely updated to reflect changes such as the introduction of the euro.

The book is divided into two main parts. Units 1-4 introduce you to the letters of the alphabet step by step with exercises to practise each new point.

Units 5-10 introduce you to real-life situations such as reading signs, maps, notices and menus. You will be able to go shopping, recognise the names of the islands, order food from a Greek menu, use public transport and even write a postcard.

Unit 11 is a useful summary of the language commonly found in signs in Greece.

By the end of the book, you will understand how the Greek script works and will have mastered the basics of reading and writing Greek.

The leader in self-learning with more than 300 titles, covering all subjects.

If you want to learn the Greek alphabet, there is no better book on the market. Best of all, because it is written in a light manner, it doesn't feel like you're actually studying. Its presentation is fun, smooth, logical, and at the end of it (which only takes an hour or so) you will know the Greek alphabet and how to read Greek.

There is only one problem with 'Beginner's Greek Script,' you'll be wishing all Greek language books were written in such a manner. While you won't be able to read Greek newspapers or books, you will be able to get your way around signs, menus, notices and advertisments, sounding out all words you come to. Small in size and price, if you are just starting to learn Greek, this book will become the most important one you own. This reviewer only wishes the same writing team continues on and tackles Greek verbs in the same manner.

A really clever little book. Lighthearted and fun to use yet at the same time you are learning and consolidating. Letters introduced in small batches with "progress report" on how many more you've got to learn. Highly reocmmended!
