Samms Teach Yourself Adobe Illustrator 9 in 24 Hours is a useful guide to the tools used in Adobe Illustrator Version 9, explaining the new tool palletes and their functions, as such it is an invaluble reference for users of other vector drawing progammes who want to quickly familiarize themselves with the toolbox of the new version 9. What it is not is tutorial for people who are new to Vector illustration and want to learn how to produce artwork. It does not show new users how artwork is created nor does it teach which method should be employed to achive a desired result ( not a single piece of artwork is shown in the book) as such it is a valuable quick reference to the many tools in Illustrator and their function but not a beginer's guide to working in vector art.

This friendly book chauffeurs you past the important landmarks of Illustrator 9. The densely written official manual that accompanies Illustrator can take an age to get through. While you are unlikely to get through Teach Yourself Adobe Illustrator 9 actually in 24 hours, it does let you quickly get on top of this fairly complex graphics package. At the same time, the 433 pages do give good coverage.

The author is a director of art production for a New York advertising agency. It shows in the pleasing layout of the book. I especially liked the many illustrations that provide good ideas when flipping through the book.
