This is not a book to skim or scan, you do need to concentrate it is not an easy read. Get a good pair of glasses, ear plugs, note paper and pencil and the results are mind-blowing. All 4 of my children are enjoying the simple-to-follow exercises. Keep them coming.

Unlike many of Edwards other books this is a real workbook - and you many be surpriced to see that thinking is so hard!

While the tools look simpel it may well take some years to master some of them.

Teach you child to think give you what you need to get started, but do not expect to become a master thinker over night - or in five days. The book gives you an overview of the methods and tools and leaves the thinking to you. I hope you and your kids enjoy reading this - I am looking forward to teach my child to use the method like I have already done with myself and quite a few adults.

p.s. I also recommend: 'Sur/petition' and 'Serious Creativity'

What this book is:
A thought provoking introduction to some of De Bono's best thinking tools with exercises suitable for using with children - and adults too!

What this book isn't:
An overnight 'become a great thinker in 7 days' manual.

The bottom line is that people can learn to think as De Bono proves. But it takes effort! Sorry - but this is the case! De Bono presents some of the CoRT tools from the schools CoRT thinking program. I was taught these at school and have been indebted to the forward thinking head teacher ever since. It also touches on some of De Bonos other tools such as 6 Hats.

The main things though is that it has exercises to do. Take the time to sit and actually do these as directed and you will be amazed at the results you and your children achieve. Sometimes your children will come up with ideas that hadn't even crossed your mind. There may be a little resistance at first, but encourage them to take part, use positive reinforcement and there will be a huge benefit for all concerned.

I have used exercises from this book as a form tutor of various ages and all have enjoyed it. If you want to extend yourself a little further you can also get Teach Yourself to Think which introduces some more of De Bono's ideas such as Po: Beyond yes and no.

A testament to the fact that thinking is a skill that anyone can learn if they put the effort in. Both highly recommended. If only all schools owned a copy!
