I thought long and hard about investing in this but 2 weeks in its a no brainer if you are serious about converting a large amount of vinyl to cd, (I haven't tried the tape player, or used the radio much as they were superflous to me).
I already have a couple of reviews up for software conversion products and while they do work and the end product is ok this machine leaves them standing for ease of use. Most importantly you can listen to your record as it is ripped to cd. Even better the separating track function can be set to work automatically and providing your tracks do not have long periods of silence within them then it'll work at separating the tracks while you do something else-I'm burning Ry Cooder while writing this review. This function isn't infallible but providing your vinyl is in good nick it'll work 90-95% of the time-you do have to be there at the end of a side unless you want a track devoted to the automatic shut down of the deck.
The playback sound is of course not as good as the likes of my rega planar deck, but its very listenable and once you play the finalised cd you'll be knocked out by the quality. I'm using CD-R discs to make a direct copy-of course you aren't allowed any mistakes with them-if your record jumps then you either pause and have another go, the cd will have the aborted track too, or live with the jump. An option would be to use CD-RW cds, this allows erasing the last track while recording, and are also reusable so you could transfer the whole caboodle to the likes of I-tunes and edit the mistakes out there. You can also do this with non rewritable discs but you end up chucking them so it depends on the quality of the vinyl and/or how fussy you are You can then type your tracklist in too and away you go.

I got this for my husband for Christmas so that he could listen to all our old records and some we have picked up in Charity shops. It was a breeze to set up, is so easy to use and has given him huge enjoyment with no problem at all. We have not tried to 'burn' any recording as yet - that's the next step. The sound quality for our suburban bungalow seems very good to us despite the size of the machine and after all, we are playing some very ancient records.

A good bit of kit,the tape deck is a bit dated though, needed a counter and of better quality....still it does what it says on the tin.

Not used to record onto CD yet, but it plays great. Not huge sound, but plenty for the small flat.

I thought long and hard before buying the LP-R500 as I did not want to be left disappointed. I am pleased to report that this model and the later R500E which is what as supplied clearly deliver what I am looking for. I wanted a full size turntable and got it. I wanted a cassette deck and got it. I wanted a easy to operate CDs player and got that. I was not worried about the radio and got that too. For me the sound achieved is excellent and the built in speakers obviously save space. This is a full size unit although the 500E is 3cm less in depth than the sizes quoted on line. The Perspex cover looks quite retro which I also like. Price wise this unit is very good value even at the full price. I would buy this if you want to burn CDs from your cassette or record collection.
