This is a delicious little guidebook - the photography is eye catching and the smart design means it would make a great gift idea, especially in the run up to Christmas.
However, what really makes this worth the purchase is the detailed, thoughtful and well-researched entries on the various establishments. Author Zena Alkayat packs the book with interesting snippets of history, a bit of insider knowledge and neat first-hand observations on more than 70 venues (what a great research trip it must have been!), giving you a strong flavour for each before you visit.
You get a real sense that she hasn't simply relied on reputation alone - sure, there are some classic venues in here, but you'll also find the best local bakeries or tea specialists included too. I've already visited several establishments recommended here and agreed with the book's comments each time.
(Interestingly, the book also caters for vegans and food allergy sufferers, helping to recommend the places that will cater to very specific needs - more guidebooks would do well to follow suit.)
All in all, this is a great little book and one you will find yourself dipping into again and again.
