An excellent disc which utilises the new DVD-audio format superbly.Sound (at 88.2kHz sampling) is full & rich with significant use of surround encoding.
The highlight of the disc is the 1812 itself (which is the choral version); individual components were recorded seperately (ie choir, orchestra, church bells and the CANNONS) and then studio mastered. This has worked superbly, giving an expansive soundfield, but do note the warning on the case about the cannon fire, they are explosive indeed!
The remaining movements on the disc are no less stunning (esp. Capriccio Italien) and make up a most enjoyable hour of listening.
Extras come in the form of a photo slide show of key moments in the recording.
Note that this is a double sided disc - the reverse side contains a lower resolution version suitable for playing on standard DVD video players (DTS & DD coding) and mp3 tracks for your PC or mobile kit.
