The Naxos label invariably produces some fine recordings and this is no exception; it contains some of my favourite pieces by Tchaikovsky, especially Capriccio Italien.
The only let-down - and it is only a slight one - is the 1812 Overture; when those cannons go off, I expect to duck! The sound-effects of these cannons sounded more like someone farting at the vicar's tea-party - rather embarrassing and best forgotten about.
But that's the only criticism; as far as I'm concerned, the jewel in the crown is the Dance of the Tumblers, which goes along at a cracking pace - a piece which is not heard anything like often enough on the radio. A very creditable CD.
