5.0 out of 5 stars Soaring Melodies 22 Sep 2009
Format:Audio CD
I agree with everything that has been said above, definitely the best recording of the Scriabin Concerto. A work unjustly neglected full of beautiful melodies and pianistic brilliance. The Concerto is delicately scored, which can be heard in the wonderous slow movement, Scriabin's expert skill in orchestration really stands out as he weaves strings solo clarinet and piano in a melancholic glow. I must mention the 1st movment with its darkly lit very Russian melody that really does soar when the orchestra and piano are in full flight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Sublime Performance of Scriabin Concerto! 6 Mar 2008
By Scriabinmahler TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
I've listened to all great recordings of Scriabin's Concerto (rarely performed hidden gem of entire piano concerti), but this performance by Demidenko towers over all in every respect; emotional intensity, depth of understanding of the music, tonal delicacy and technical polish. The broadly paced 2nd movement is incrediblly beautiful. The rapt serenity of the music has never been captured so vividly and eloquently. 3rd movement is most scintillating and soars right into heaven with the final chord! No wonder this cd has won Gramophone Award in concerto category.

5.0 out of 5 stars Award Winning Scriabin Concerto 21 July 2006
Format:Audio CD
I've listened to almost all recordings of Scriabin Piano Concerto, but all of them do not come even close to Demidenko's account. This is a rare occasion that everything goes perfect like a miracle. Choice of tempi is perfect in each movement. Orchestra part is completely one with soloist as if it is inspired by the pianist's passion and poetry. Demidenko plays slow movement very slowly with awe-inspiring delicacy and other worldly sense of serenity. The last movement describes painful and hard flight upwards until the music triumphantly proclaim victory and flies away and vanishes into silence. Must for anyone who loves Scriabin's music

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful treat 1 July 2011
By Gnomatic - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I first watched Nikolai Demidenko perform Tchaikovksy's 1st Piano Concerto under the SSO in Singapore and have since been in awe with this performer. Demidenko's renditions are like grandmother's cooking - slow, deliberate and tantalizingly palatable. Demidenko has a way of treating the delicate parts of the concert with utmost care - punctuating and stretching his notes like a wine connoisseur swirling and savoring every sip of an exquisite wine. Watching him play in person accentuates this effect further - his brooding, towering frame utterly engrossed over his instrument; his style unhurried, confident, fluent.
For someone that had never heard Scriabin before buying this CD, his Piano Concerto was the perfect dessert to the main course above - short, sweet, melodic, melancholic in an almost Chopinesque way.
A wonderful CD and a reminder that when it comes to being source for great performances by relatively unsung performers, nothing beats Amazon.com.

5.0 out of 5 stars An overlooked gem if there ever was one 9 Jun 2010
By tacks31 - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
These are wonderful performances, and the clarity is astounding. It sounds as if I'm there at the recording session, sitting right alongside the pianist. In addition, these two concertos compliment each other quite nicely, just as the Schumann and Grieg make an excellent coupling on disc.

Argerich, Van Cliburn and Horowitz deserve the many accolades for their mastery of Tchaikovsky's First, but I hope reviewers will also give this one a chance. You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing New Insights 14 July 2004
By "deonildo" - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I just heard this version of Tchaikovsky`s first piano concerto broadcasted on a local cultural radio station. After Argerich / Kondarchin, Richter / Karajan and many more, this is a Refreshing version with New Insights, both, on the piano side and also on the orchestra side, other instruments contribute, on their solo moments, to a common beauty.
