Beautiful book 12 Jun 2010
Format:Paperback
Tauntons are keeping up with their usual high standards. This is a beautifully written book with plenty of clear well thought out photographic illustration. It is for someone who wishes to make beautiful boxes and would like a little inspiration and a wealth of technical ideas. Though machine tools are not necessary to make similar boxes, the book does refeence them heavily and give loads of lovely tips and techniques that involve them as they save so much timem and are the heart of any modern cabinet/woodshop. An absolute gem.

This is a mixed bag.
This is my first Taunton book and frankly I had expected it to be better. If this is representative for the rest I won't rush to buy any other titles.
The book tries to cover everything and so it falls short everywhere. Perhaps if the author had been able to write a book 3 times the size things would not have been so bad.

But in a book specifically about box making should you be explaining how to make all the basic carpentry joints?
Hasn't everyone who wants to buy a book like this already got books on general carpentry?

There are a couple of items of interest specific to box making but really this is just a general woodworking book in which the projects are boxes.
A missed opportunity.
