Book Description

7 July 2011

With A Taste of Home, Angela Hartnett brings her informal, grounded style of cooking into our kitchens. Drawing inspiration from her childhood experiences of accessible home cooking with her Italian grandmother, she mixes Mediterranean influences with European to create delectable recipes that are straightforward, quick and easy to make.

Whether you want to cook a simple lunch or an after-work supper, Angela has a mouthwatering, easy recipe to satisfy your needs. If you just want a snack or a starter you can try Lamb Broth with Mint, or Goat's Curd and Lentil Salad. For main meals there are fresh twists on classic home dishes, such as Beef Stew with Butternut Squash and Red Onions, as well as more unusual dishes like Quail Salad with Harissa Dressing - and some traditional Italian recipes including Sausage Rigatoni and Fennel. Those with a sweet tooth can indulge in Ginger and Passion Fruit Trifle or Chocolate Pecan Tart.

With mouthwatering photography by Jonathan Lovekin, this is, simply put, an indispensable cookbook and an essential item on any home-cooking enthusiast's shelves.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful family cookbook 13 July 2011
Format:Hardcover
I also do not agree with the negative review. This is a charming book full of easy to make, approachable and most importantly...delicious recipes.

The book is easy to follow. The pictures are up to date and clean and crisp. I particularly love the section on risotto's and imagine I will be using those recipes a lot in Autumn and Winter.

Angela Hartnett should be celebrated. Like Jamie Oliver, she has the talents of a Michelin starred chef but also the appeal of a homecook and that is rare.

I really can't recommend this book enough if you want delicious recipes which are easy to follow but guaranteed to deliver perfect results.

4.0 out of 5 stars Recipes for easy family cooking 10 July 2011
Format:Hardcover
I can't agree with the poor review of this book. If you are looking for a 'cheffie' book with lots of complicated recipes and techniques that are challenging at home, then don't buy this book. However, if you like Angela Hartnett (Cucina is brilliant) and her accessible recipes that work and can be cooked easily at home, then do buy this book. There isn't a picture for every recipe but do you really need one? Angela's recipes work every time, which is more than can be said for some writers! I have baked the Sticky Lemon Drizzle and Poppy Seed Cake and it was delightful. I am going to try Beef and Onion Gratin tomorrow and that is the thing with Angela's books, I actually want to cook the recipes and not just look at the book on the shelf or read about the recipes but never cook them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Caj 1 Aug 2011
By Caj
Format:Hardcover
Recipes are easy but limited information given at times - do you peel the apples or not in celeriac and apple soup?
also quantities seem wrong at times - 500g of Rocket for Goat's cheese lasagne? I ended up buying 6 bags - 70g weight - and couldn't physically fit more than 3 bags into the lasasgne!

2.0 out of 5 stars poor stuff
It is almost as if someone has dug out a book from the 1980's, photographs and all and persuaded a celebrity to endorse it. Dated, lacking in any detail or flair. Read more
