Product Description

Set in the midst of the Indonesian rainforest, A TASTE FOR GREEN TANGERINES begins with Bethany Parker's arrival in Borneo and explores the limits of friendship and the consequences of love amidst a small band of Europeans, Americans, and Australians working on an eco-tourism project there. As they battle loggers and gold miners, experiment with local medicines, and selectively adopt the ways of a traditional culture, passions are inflamed, long-held values are shattered, and perspectives are altered by the savagery and beauty of their jungle surroundings. When out-of-control fires, a toxic 'haze' and the blood-drenched practices of the head hunters finally drive them from their leafy 'Eden', no one, least of all Bethany, herself, emerges from the steamy isolation unchanged.

Set in the rainforest in Borneo, a woman struggles with politics, love, and war. Throw in the local tribes and more than a hint of witch doctor and you have a fast paced thriller full of unexpected twists!

I read this on holiday and it was great. The book is about a young English woman who goes out to work in the middle of the rainforest in Borneo. It is a fun book which really brings alive the jungle and makes you feel like you are on an adventure. I wasn't sure about the hero male character in the beginning as he was a bit of a bastard but I fell for him in the end. But Bethany, the main character, is great, not at all soppy about men which was a relief. I also really liked Marguerita, another totally not typical female character. You can tell that this was written by someone who loves Indonesia, loves the rainforest and animals. If you want to feel like you are on holiday whether you actually are or not, read this.

What a lovely read, great story, really interesting characters. It feels like being on holiday. Brilliant cover design which totally sums up the book. Anyone who thought this might be a serious travel book is a moron. What I liked best was how different this book is. It is a romance without being too soppy - Bethany is a really independent character, it is set in an exotic setting without being hard work or boring. It has loads of local colour and interesting details about local headhunters etc but without taking itself too seriously. And it is passionate about the environment without being too 'right on'. It is fun, exciting and really interesting.

Got bored with it
I became bored with it as neither the storyline nor the characters were developed and I think the author did too as the ending was very abrupt. Read more

More than just a good holiday read
A Taste Of Green Tangerines has the sub-title of "A saucy romp in the rainforest," and while there is that (and very entertaining it is too) there is also so much more. Read more

Love it!
Reading this book feels like going on holiday to Borneo with a hot bloke. Steamy scenes in a steamy jungle, but also really well researched and interesting. Read more
