This was one of those "impulse shopping" moments. Browzing thru Amazon's long cavernous list of films I came across this and vaguely remembered the title, but not whether I had ever seen it (I hadn't!). So, what a lovely surprise when I sat down last night with a glass or two of wine and my wife and watched...a very good, well made and acted mystery film. A bit like some Sangster/Clemens scripts (Who is trying to kill/drive mad/or what/ our heroine), this is gorgeously filmed on location in the South of France, so lovely I wanted to move there..now. The cast is not top drawer (no disrespect, I am talking about late 60's)-David Buck as the hero is heroic, Peter Vaughan is solid as an English policeman, Kay Walsh is great, Francis Mathews is as good as ever. But, to me the great revelation is Eva Renzi. She has to carry the film and is in virtually every scene, sometimes as her "plain" self and then all glammed up, and she looks terrific in both guises. And..she can act! Did I say how sexy she looks in a bikini? No, well she does. This has no gratuitous sex or violence despite the BBFC "X" cert at the beginning (it's reclassified as 12 and that's fair). It moves at a fair pace (95' duration). Mint print and sound, and very fair Amazon price. If you got this not knowing much about it I doubt you would be anything other than pleased with it. Sorry not to have gone into the plot (I seldom do), but just remember it's a mystery/thriller, not Hitchcock, but for what it intends to be, a good little film.
