A few years ago, I decided to try self-publishing in paperback format after a period with a literary agent ended without a publishing deal. It taught me a lot more about the book trade and publishing industry and led to Package Deal being sold in several branches of Waterstone's in Sussex. This then led to my working with another literary agent on a new novel, Hot Property, but once again, my agent was unable to strike a deal.
