Book Description

25 Oct 2008
This book combines all of Angelika Taschen's recommendations for Paris hotels, shops, restaurants, cafes, and bars into one volume, ensuring visitors a wealth of ideas and a guarantee that their Parisian sojourn will never have a dull moment. From the ultra-hot Colette fashion concept store to Tom Ford's secret hideaway to Hemingway's favorite brasserie, all of the best insider tips are gathered together between these covers so that when you hop out from under yours, you'll have plenty of exciting things on your agenda. The highlights include: decorative ceramics shop Astier de Villatte; the ultra-modern Comme des Garcons perfume and candle boutique; Laduree, the best macaroons in the city; Ma Bourgogne restaurant on the beautiful Place des Vosges; classic bistro Allard that has hardly changed in 70 years; left bank restaurant La Palette, a favorite of Picasso and Braque; Brasserie Lipp, where Hemingway ate the eat herrings he wrote about in "A Moveable Feast"; the ultra-luxurious Ritz hotel on elegant Place Vendome; the cozy and cute Hotel Bourg Tibourg in the Marais; Hotel Verneuil in St. Germain-des-Pres opposite the former residence of Serge Gainsbourg; and, the quintessentially French Hotel Duc de Saint-Simon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing book! 3 Mar 2011
By L. Schattman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This is a truly amazing book. It has the high-quality color photographs one expects from Taschen, along with wonderful maps. The graphic design is excellent - each page is both visually appealing and easy to read, and the tabs differentiating the three sections (hotels, restaurants and shops) are the perfect design solution to navigating such a large book.

The book covers hotels, restaurants and shops in Paris. Each hotel, restaurant and shop listing includes a brief overview of the history and design of the establishment and several pages of glorious photographs. Each section is organized by neighborhood:
Palais Royal / Musee du Louve
Champs-Elysees / Etoile
Montmarte / Pigalle
Marais / Bastille
Pantheon
Saint-Germain-des-Pres
Saint-Sulpice / Sevres-Babylone / Montparnasse
Musee d'Orsay / Rue du Bac

If you are planning a trip to Paris, by all means consult this book, but don't expect to carry it around with you -- it is large and heavy. It is an interior design book as much as a travel guide, a photographic tour of the architecture and interiors of commercial Paris. It is an excellent source of inspiration and ideas for designers. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great coffeetable book plus great gift 12 Aug 2009
By Mode Meisje - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Being from 3.5 hours outside of Paris I have been many many times and this book makes you relive your trips all over again. Even if you have never been there and don't intend on going this makes for a great coffee table book. It contains beautiful photos of hotels, restaurants and shops. It's also a great gift for someone who just moved or bought their own place. I recommend the author to anyone. Angelika Taschen has many great books. A+
