Product Description

Product Description

Tascam CD RW900 SL The TASCAM CD-RW900SL adds a list of eagerly requested features to the most popular CD recorder on the market. Building on the success of the CD-RW750, the CD-RW900SL adds MP3 playback, pitch and key control, a keyboard input and more to an already packed feature set. MP3 playback is provided with ID3 tags, so you can read the names of tracks as they play. The user can navigate to directories on the CD, so MP3 files can be organized into folders before burning. Pitch control is also a standard feature, with up to 16% control over playback. A new function called Key Original changes the playback speed without affecting the pitch. The new PS/2 keyboard input offers not only the ability to name tracks using CD Text, but gives the user one-key access to frequently-accessed menu functions. The CD mechanism is slot-loading, as opposed to tray. The CD-RW900SL is a professional CD recorder that fits into 2 rackspaces. It features unbalanced RCA inputs and outputs, as well as S/PDIF digital ins and outs via optical and coaxial connectors. Dedicated analog input controls are provided on the front panel, and a digital input trim is also controllable. Using TASCAM CD recorders is simple! That's why they're the first choice for houses of worship, schools, and other demanding applications. Features: 2U rackmount design, Slot-loading CD mechanism, ±16% pitch control in 0.1% steps (CD audio discs only), MP3 Audio Playback, Key Original (CD audio discs

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for home recording, 31 Mar 2008
By Antonio Eduardo Marques (Portugal) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this unit for home - not studio - recording.
There are several advantages for using it over a CD-RW unit on a PC. In my case, I use it not only for copying CDs from my main unit (a Cambridge Audio machine) but also discs from my DVD and my analog turntable - possible but not very practical to do on a PC.
I use the optical digital connection to copy from the CD player, the coaxial connection to do the same from the DVD and the analog connection to copy from other sources, including the turntable or anything else I have in my hi-fi chain.
Unlike the "home" CD recorders, this one can use any kind of blank CD-R or CD-RW, i.e., you don't need special (read: rare and expensive) "Audio" CD-R/RW.
The machine is easy to use and makes copies identical to the originals. You can easily copy a music DVD to a CD - it converts the bitrate and it also can create tracks, automatically, on the CD.
From LPs, the automatic creation of tracks is also possible but is more tricky, because it depends on the detection of 2 seconds of silence on the vinyl record - and "silence" in this case is not very easy to achieve! Even so, there are several settings that can be used according to the quality/state of the analog recordings.
One more thing: for hooking up to a stereo system like I did, note that the side parts to fit in a "rack" are removable with a simple Philips screwdriver.
