My discovery of the Lakeland Tarns, 26 Feb 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Tarns of Lakeland: West v. 1 (Cicerone Guide) (Paperback)
I found the theme of "The Tarns of Lakeland Vol.1:West" a refreshing change to your "normal" fell guide books. Don't get me wrong, I love the English Lake District and have my fair share of guide books including another (The Mountains of England and Wales Vol.2 England) by the authors of this book, John and Anne Nuttall.
The idea of having the tarns of Lakeland as the main objective of a walk rather than the fells themselves appealed to me and I find the information and directions in the guide book are very well laid out and very easy to follow. As an added bonus, the pen and ink drawings by John Nuttall are a very welcome addition.
Each walk is accompanied by a sketched map of the area at 1:25,000 scale and range from easy through to more strenuous walks. Also included are details such as the tarns visited, distance covered, height gained, a brief summary of the walk and a starting point including grid refrence.
All in all a very good addition to my growing book collection and I'll definatley be buying the second book in the series, "Vol.2: East" in the very near future.
