Product Description

Product Description

Bare-knuckle fighting without the bull! I haven't been to prison for robbery, I didn't know the Krays and I make no claims to be invincible . . . But my life fighting was the closest to hell I will ever get.'Learn what fuels hatred and makes a once-gentle boy into violent man. Read stories of horrific fighting experiences on the Mafia-controlled extreme fight circuit of New York. Prepare yourself for harrowing descriptions of drug addiction, mindless violence and organised crime. Tarmac Warrior has it all. Billy Cribb was born into a Romani/Jew family and spent most of his childhood travelling. His early years were marred by the racism and bigotry his family endured at the hands of small-minded locals in the villages where they worked. These random attacks planted seeds of anger and hatred in Billy which later manifested in his fighting - for Billy Cribb became one of the greatest bare-knuckle fighters of his generation. Revealing an underground fight scene rarely glimpsed by those on the outside, Tarmac Warrior traces Billy's career from his first fights on the motorways and A roads around Britain onto the cross channel ferries which provided an arena for many of his early fights. It then follows Billy's move to Majorca, giving a frightening insight into what really goes on in this seemingly idyllic Mediterranean island: the timeshare racketeering, extortion and organised crime which lie under the surface of the popular holiday destination.

About the Author

Billy Cribb now lives in Sussex and is a successful horse breeder and comedy writer. He has also spent time as a drugs counsellor. This is his first publication.

This is a really horrible book. The other 1 star review pretty much says it all. What starts out as something that might sound an interesting insight into the 'underworld' of street fighting, turns into just chapter after chapter of 'and then this happened..and then this..and then this...' it's ultimately empty, souless and dull.

Indeed about half way through the book the author decides to head to the continent from the Uk using the Ferries. Of course there is a 'fight' scheduled on the ferry itself, but whereas the first part of the book was at least interesting in how each fight panned out or how each fight was 'organized', the author seems to have lost interest the title of the book, skims over the encounters on the ferry in two sentences and then we find ourself somewhere in spain where he is hired as some kind of body guard/heavy. Then you realise this he really is the stereotypical 'short angry violent' man. It stops being a book about street fighting and turns into a hateful, hurtful waste of my time. If reading about the violent doings of one human being to another is your thing, then get it, but otherwise don't bother.

Amazing life 13 Jan 2002
Format:Hardcover
I thoroughly enjoyed the book Tarmac Warrior. As a student of culture and civil rights I am intrigued with the honesty and insight giiven of the Romany family. The book gave me a greater understanding of a culture that is difficult to get inside. I have to say as a pacifist I wasn't impressed with the violence within the book but the story surrounding it made good reading and justified to some extent things that happened within that time period and quite obviously one knows how fightng is inherent to the Gypsy culture so I wasn't that shocked.

Superb! 12 Oct 2001
Format:Hardcover
I thought this book was excellent. I have read most of the literature available that involves bare knuckle fighting, unlicenced boxing as well as ultimate and cult fighting but found this to be one of the best. What sets it apart is that he tells of his defeats and doesn't claim to be invincibe, plus he was a character and the scams he pulled were excellent. Must read book!!!!
