The Defcon 1 Ultra is a versatile battery powered anti-theft alarm system that guards your notebook in more locations and situations than any other device you can buy. The Defcon 1 Ultra combines a security cable, resettable four-digit combination lock providing up to 10,000 unique combinations, a lock slot adapter that fits into the security slot found on most notebook computers, a 105 dB alarm and a motion sensor with adjustable sensitivity. The retractable steel cable is run through the computer lock slot adapter, and around a fixed object (such as a desk) and back to the Defcon 1 Ultra to secure the computer. The Defcon 1 Ultra also attaches to your Targus carrying case.

I realised a long time ago that if someone is really determined to part you from your belongings - they will mostly do so. No cable no matter how robust will stop a determined thief armed with a suitable cutting tool.
This little item is robust enough to stop any one attempting a quick snatch and grab but more importantly the alarm whilst not ear splitting, does create enough noise to draw attention.
I could have purchased a more robust cable without an alarm but in reality that would be no more effective for determined thieves.
This little rather compact unit seems to do as it says but my main security will mostly be - not to leave my laptop anywhere! when I take it out with me. At Home the cable is just about long enough to secure my laptop and desktop together.

Bought this after purchasing a Dell Inspiron that I needed to keep secure for university.
The cable seems quite thin, but as an alarm sounds if it's cut, this shouldn't matter too much. By eye, the cable seems about 1m long. It would have been nice to have it a bit longer, but as the cable retracts into the device for storage, this would make it too large.
The motion sensor feature is good. You can choose two levels of sensitivity. Even with it on the most sensitive it can still be moved, but only extremely slowly and carefully. It would take a good hour to carefully move it out of a room, the slightest judder sets it beeping. The only thing I would criticize is that even when it detects movement, unless the movement is continual for 4 seconds, the alarm will not sound (beeps notifying that it has been moved do sound however). The alarm is loud, but not too ear piercing if you set it off accidentally.
The unit is pretty simple to use, and you can easily set a new unlocking code. A little overpriced at £30, but well worth it for the peace of mind.

Great little product. Well made, seems very strong. I owned the previous model and this one is smaller and neater, less chunky. The only critism would be that it is no where near as loud as the previous model and in very crowded situations may not draw the attention one would want?
