After four albums on Philadelphia International/CBS Records which featured hits in such R&B staples as "You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else," "Nights Over Egypt" and "Who Can I Run To," The Jones Girls headed over to RCA to record their fifth outing, "On Target."
The same dreamy harmonies are still here, but there is a new sound apparent. Instead of lushly orchestrated R&B, the volume is turned up and the synths are brought in to update the sisters' sound a la Melba Moore and Evelyn "Champagne" King.
The results?...No hits unfortunately, but a sound that is both new and refreshing, as well as dancefloor-saavy with a couple of Jones Girls ballads tossed into the mix for good measure and balance. The Pointer Sisters come to mind with their triple platinum "Breakout" CD. The best cut on the entire CD by far is the very urgent, "2 Win U Back." Funkytowngrooves really outdid themselves on yet another otherwise forgotten Funk classic and shortly thereafter, Shirley would return to Philly International Records and present a successful solo outing with 1986's #1 hit single, "Do You Get Enough Love" from her album, "Always in the Mood."
"On Target" would be the last Jones Girls album recorded.
