I bought this DVD because I love the book, however there was nothing about this film I enjoyed. Apart from Andie McDowell the casting was badly done and the acting not much better. If you are a fan of Maeve Binchy then I do not think you will enjoy this adaptation. For instance Danny is meant to be handsome, charming and charismatic - he failed on all points. Rosemary is meant to be a glamorous, self assured, well groomed etc. She failed on all accounts. The film starts at the time when the marriage between Danny and Ria is ending, this gives you no opportunity to get to know the characters or why the house in Tara Road means so much to Rhea.It makes it difficult to emphasise with the characters and it makes it difficult to understand why Ria would even want Danny back in her life.

Thoroughly enjoyable film with some wonderful performances, in particular, Olivia Williams. Can't compare the book to the film.. but how many books / films ever match?

Big Disappointment!!! 12 Aug 2009
Format:DVD
I read the book first which I thoroughly enjoyed so decided to get the DVD - BIG DISSAPPOINTMENT!!! - the film doesn't start till about a third way through the book, so you miss a lot of the plot and you don't get to know the characters as well. The actress who plays Ria was very wet, where as in the book she seems a lot more capable and in control of her life. Andie MacDowell seems to play the same character in all her films, gushy and needy. Sorry big thumps down from me.

Very enjoyable
Though not a very original plot line, this is one of those benign and comfortable films I enjoy watching. Would love to find new and similar ones.

I enjoyed this video as did my friends. All agreed - a good watch. Sound quality not as good though.

complete let down
This film was so loosely based on the novel that it was a cheek to call it Tara Road...why didnt they call it House Swap, as that's all it was about, and most of that was... Read more

Poor Interpretatio
Tara Road (2005)

I was very disappointed, the other review said it was close to the book, the only thing I can think is that they haven't read the book! Read more

True to the book
I was delighted how true to the book the film was, as some films stray from the original writing. There is obviously more detail in the book but the film portrayed it very well.
