Product Description

Review

'A winning debut. ****' (WOMAN'S OWN )

'An engaging story about a group of likeable characters with enough twists and turns to keep those pages turning... O'Neill's attention to detail brings an authenticity to the book. She manages effortlessly to bring '40s Ireland to life, transporting you to a little room in a remote cottage - you can almost smell the turf smoke and baking soda bread. So if you fancy a new novel by a new author capable of spinning a good old yarn, you'll definitely love Tara Flynn.' (IRISH POST ) --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Book Description

A powerful debut in the great storytelling tradition of Catherine Cookson --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I really enjoyed "Tara Flynn". It was a great read and I literally could not put it down. I was given it as a present and did wonder if I would be able to get through it because I hate big doorstoppers of books normally and prefer the shorter length novel. But this really held my attention and I gave up normal life for a day and a half while I immersed myself in it! And that's a rare event for me nowadays, the older I get the less inclined I am to pursue any book that doesn't grab me early on. But this really did. I loved the characters in it most. Though occasionally Tara got up my nose a bit, because she's so beautiful and talented and intelligent, but Biddy I really loved, and Ruby Sweeney in Stockport, they were my favourite characters. But the whole story was great and must have been well researched, because I particularly loved the bits about the trip to Dublin and eating in Bewleys Cafe, and shopping, and all that. I've often done that myself, and it was very realistic. And the bits about the Erin Ballroom in Stockport as well, reminded me of all those Irish ballrooms and dancehalls I used to frequent myself when I lived in England. All in all, a really good read, with some awful sad bits as well as really funny bits, and a great story. Looking forward to the next one.

Couldn't put it down! 11 April 2004
Format:Paperback
Tara Flynn is a well crafted book, that kept me going from the page one until I finished the book. This is the first book by this auther, so I look forward in anticipation to the next one. I loved the references to my home town, I recognised the settings immediately. The main characters are likable and their lives are engaging if not gripping as the story unfolds. Geraldine O'Neil has surpassed herself here, anyone who buys this book will not be disappointed.

I have read and disregarded many a romantic novel. Tara Flynn has broken the 'norm' for me. True life's underlying problems are identified and related with heart rendering reality by chapter three. Life for Tara and Biddy run in a parallel yet different journey, as the two friends grow up and eventually leave home, not knowing what fate has in store for them in Stockport, England. Their story is fascinating. The day by day developmentment of two Irish girls in my home town of Stockport, England is tremendous. I could not put this book down. The references to so many places that I know, (though I wasn't around in the fifties) is a credit to Geraldine. The level of research to authenticate it's accuracy, on top of writing a fabulous novel sets Tara Flynn above any novel I have read for many a year.
The conclusion to Tara Flynn is wonderful, and for those who have not read it yet, 'you will not be disappointed'. There are no foregone conclusions here.
One request to Geraldine:- Please let us Tara fans have more. I will watch this web -site with great hope. CONGRATULATIONS.

Kevin Kelleanne. Stockport, England
