It's always nicer to find a recipe collection with a distinctive style. I'm just reviewing the 41 savoury and 6 sweet vegetarian options. I was getting a bit fed up of pedestrian tapas collections written by gringas.
This has a more authentic and contemporary feel to the dishes-(tightened up by the fact that is a restaurant recipe book)- mostly a few choice ingredients simply cooked- usually by pan frying them together. So far the dishes have been either phenomenal or at worst, agreeable- no disasters. So I've tried delicious oyster mushrooms dressed in herbs, garlic and sesame seeds, spinach and cheese parcels, a couple of minimalistic paellas, panfried asparagus with artichoke and peas. Each recipe also works well enough as a full meal for 2. It's very fresh, not overly cheesy, and fairly simple (although I did have to boil, oven roast and panfry the same beetroot for one recipe). So far I have picked up the tip that quartered onions need to be oven roasted for 10 minutes less than other veg- useful! The desserts (not yet sampled) are family recipes for fruity, nutty comforting staples like lemon cake and orange flan.
