I love this book. In it we find the authors translation of the Tao Te Ching, a selection of alternative translations, a lexicon offering various meanings for each of the Chinese words, and text offering guidance in interpretation. I have read many translations of the Tao Te Ching; often they fall into two broad camps: dry intellectual translations on one hand, or whimsical imaginitive (rather than insightful) on the other. This is among the few that endeavours to avoid these two pitfalls - both of which Lao Tzu warned strongly against; for this reason I am very happy that I bought this copy.

I love this book. In it we find the authors verbatim rendition of the Tao Te Ching, a selection of alternative translations, a lexicon offering various meanings for each of the Chinese words, and text offering guidance in understanding Lao Tzu's work. I have read dozens of copies of the Tao Te Ching; there can be no truly definitive version since all are necessarily subject to the translators interpretation. Those of us wishing to understand the Text will doubtless read many editions, IMHO this should definitely be one of them, it ranks very high on my list of favourites.
