I own many of Jonathan Goldman's CDs. At home they are used mostly for the purpose of aiding with deep meditation and chakra balancing and healing, *not specifically for having ambient music playing for relaxation*.
If you are looking for ambient music, there are tracks on this CD that are beautiful and indeed relaxing. However, the tracks are short, there are meditation "marker" chimes that play between each track, and some tracks include chanting which you might find either repetitive or uncomfortable to listen to if you just want relaxing music.
That being said, if you are looking to own this particular CD for intentful meditation and healing, I do not believe you will be disappointed!
This CD is impressive with tones and a "flavor" much different than any of the other meditative CDs of his that I own. To truly appreciate the experience, YES, closed headphones are a strong recommendation. The music on the CD seems to offer a surround-sound experience that is captivating and mesmerising. I'd love to talk about how awesome this feature of the CD is and how amazing it is, but it is something you've just got to experience on your own.
Before I bought this CD I listened to a sample of track 3 (The throat center) and was sold immediately. Just from listening through the computer I could feel that chakra center activating. After purchasing the CD and going through all of the tracks with closed headphones on, it was an experience that I couldn't put into words. :)
If you own Chakra Chants 1 or 2, there is a track on this CD that sounds like a remixed version of a chant on one of those CDs. I have to say that was a bit confusing for me. The chant on this CD is so far different from the rest of the music, I'm not sure exactly what it was doing there! It was not enough to take away from my experience though, because I was familiar with the track and its purpose for balancing.
If you plan to use this CD to do balancing work, the tracks start balancing from the crown, down to the root, and then backt up to the crown again. Going from 7 to 1, and then back up to 7 again can make it a bit difficult to keep track of exactly where you are at. He uses chimes in this CD that have a sound beautifully different than on his other balancing CDs. It is a bit too much to stay aware of though while trying to fully relax into meditation to keep count so often and quickly. Most songs are about 4 minutes long.
The music is just lovely to meditate and heal to. I do wish the tracks were longer!
Overall, different from his other CDs that I own, beautiful and true to his other works in my experience providing a wonderful healing experience that I can feel.
