- Praise for Hewlett & Martin: "8 out of 10 cat owners who expressed a preference chose Hewlett and Martin as the voodoo sex-gods of the nineties"

Product Description

A twisted take on Homer's classical Greek epic, The Odyssey, brought to you by Peter Milligan (X-Statix) and Tank Girl co-creator and artist, Jamie Hewlett (Gorillaz), the Tank Girl Odyssey makes a few "minor" changes to the original...Booga, husband of Tank Girl, is being wooed by countless Hollywood producers, and without his wife there his resolve is crumbling. Tele, their TV-headed son, knows that he must contact his mother...setting off a chain of events that will see Tank Girl face death itself, the siren call of gothic rock, a cyclopean hotel proprietor, and a host of other scenes and characters from The Odyssey...given the - ahem - "idiosyncratic" Tank Girl treatment! Warning: Adults Only!

Tank Girl was delivered in perfect condition as advertised, and as usual, Jamie Hewlett never fails to provide bizarre whacky entertainment!

4.0 out of 5 stars Tank Girl, Less Chaotic But More Enjoyable, 27 Nov 2009
By
This review is from: Tank Girl: Odyssey (Paperback)
I think my title sums up my thoughts on this latest outing for TG and the gang. Riffing off Ulysses and every other rendition of Homer's Odyssey the writers could think of, TG: Odyssey sees the usually jumbled and non-linear TG take a direct, structured approach for once. At first I worried there might be a loss of energy as a direct result of losing the freeform style of the original strips, and of course this is a graphic novel rather than a collection of serial strips so the energy *has* to be different, but the anarchic wit and ambience survives the transformation. Indeed, I might even venture to say this is one of the best outings for TG I've read. Whilst the plot is structured, that isn't normally a problem in any kind of novel, and the writers have concocted enough twists and turns in the story that it doesn't feel the TG crew have sold out. Indeed, it's deceptively elegant, because it still feels anarchic, it's just that now we can follow a linear plot too, which makes the whole thing easier to engage with and enjoy. TG still rules, and she's keeping with the times!

4.0 out of 5 stars Tank Girl gets her grubby paws on the Odyssey..., 8 Feb 2010
By J. Fritz - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Tank Girl: Odyssey (Remastered Edition) (Tank Girl (Unnumbered)) (Paperback)
This comic is essentially a "Tank Girl" version of the Odyssey. We start out with Tank Girl having been at a party for years at "Troy's house," when Booga (kangaroo bf) is given an offer by a movie agent to be made a "much bigger star than Tank Girl." Meanwhile, Tank Girl assembles a crew (various cast regulars and cameos by the creators) to get back in time to slaughter Booga's suitor and must overcome obstacles such as Tankie's dead mother, a hotel that only accepts payments in eyeballs, a goth-rock band called "The Sirens" and more. What I think is admirable about this is that Alan Martin, co-creator and usual writer of Tank Girl, stepped out and was replaced with Peter Milligan for this story. Peter Milligan, with fairly limited knowledge of Tank Girl, managed to capture the essence of Tank Girl and also wove an interesting "Tank Girl/punk rock/bogjoke" interpretation of the Odyssey. This book, like the other remastered editions I've reviewed, has an introduction from the author (a different author this time) as well as an additional comic about Tank girl and Booga camping out in Arlington National Cemetery. The story for Tank Girl Odyssey isn't too bad, although there are times when you can almost tell that it's being written by someone else (mainly because it doesn't end with Alan Martin's usual "then she takes acid and blows up the planet" type of ending). As for the content, it's the usual immature substance abuse, drinking, toilet humor, femme fatale act you'd expect from Tank Girl. The Odyssey reference is also pretty interesting for those of you who aren't uncultured swine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tank Girl: The Odyssey, 13 Feb 2011

I'm really glad I got this book. It's funny and the art is good and it kinda does follow "The Odyssey". It was made after the horrible movie, so there's cracks in the story about it. The staff is included as characters (poor Jamie). I guess I should add that it's not for small children. But, if you're getting a "Tank Girl" you probably know that already. For me, a 43 yr old geek girl, this was the perfect thing to unwind and lighten up after stressful days. BLOOD AND SNOT!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tank Girl TPs, 2 Dec 2008
By beansidhe.harmony "dischord" - Published on Amazon.com

Great book, lots of post-apocalyptic beer-guzzling, butt-smoking, heat-packing action. It never hurts when your boyfriend is a homicidal manimal who resembles what was once a kangaroo, either. Sweet.
