I grew up in the '70s and '80s with two Mummies. I only wish that there had been something like this book out there at the time. I bought "And Tango Makes Three" for my children and I had trouble reading it to them as it brought tears to my eyes.
A fantastic book showing how this is a family like any other without labouring the point. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
On a practical note, there is quite a lot of text on the pages. There are beautiful pictures but this is not, in my opinion, a picture book for pre-schoolers. Of course you could simplify the language if necessary but I think it is a pretty good level for my 7 and 8 year olds.

I bought this book for my 3.5 year old son and it immediately became one of his favourites. The story is touching and realistic (it's a true story) and the expressions on the penguins' faces are marvellous. My son brings it out to be read all the time and I have had to buy many more copies for my friends who have fallen in love with the book as well!

They make a nest, and put a rock in it (their "egg") which they incubate. The keeper gives Roy and Silo a real egg to foster and they become proud parents to little Tango, the first penguin at the zoo to have two Daddies.
If you are looking for a book to introduce your children to the idea of same-sex relationships and parenting, you will love this book.

Finally there's a story for children to introduce them to different kinds of families in a cute and fun manner. Based on a true story- two remarkable male penguins become parents as they bring up a baby penguin after their mother passes away.
To the keeper's surprise, the two males make a happy home for the baby penguin.
Even though this is a children's book, it will help children mature and understand the normality of same sex couples and families. Not only will they have fun at story time, but they will learn not all families have a 'mommy and daddy'. Some have two mommies and some have two daddies.
Such an enchanting book.

A lovely story and great illustrations
The story is really lovely and is accompanied by some really nice illustrations. The story is written very well and enjoyable to read.

Great educational and cute book
