Product Description

And so begins the story of Midget Hollows - teenager, surfer, partier , pervert. Midget and his friends live the quintessential surf existence: by consuming as much weed and booze as they can find. Beneath the surface of this hedonistic lifestyle, Midget starts to feel the claustrophobia of small town life. Cass, the older brother of Midget's best friend, arrives back in town. Midget is instantly attracted to his confidence, his openness about his homosexuality, and his graceful surfing skills. Midget and Cass embark on a passionate affair, but it isn't long before the relationship feels the strains of secrecy. Midget finds that his sexuality and the culture he inhabits might not be so compatible. A "gay surf movie", a "coming of age" story, or a punk's view of teenage sexuality, Tan Lines is a wild ride of passion, love, laughs, sex and drugs set against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean.

I don't understand the negative reviews being posted for this film, because me and my friends thoroughly enjoyed it. It was interesting, sparky and a different take on your run of the mill low budget gay films.

We sat watching the surfing scenes and the beach and the sunshine wishing we'd grown up somewhere sunny and good like this Australian situation, rather than cold, grey, wet england!

There were several stand out scenes, particularly the party where all the kids are dancing to their own ipods- that was brilliant.

We also enjoyed the sub plot with the girl and the older woman.

The only negative aspect was the end, but I won't say what it was because that would be spoiler. But we didn't like it.

I really don't understand why this film gathers so many negative reviews. OK, it may not be the best film ever produced in Australia, but it ranks way above some of the dire rubbish which comes from low-budget American gay-themed movies. It may only be my opinion, but I do feel that the storyline, the acting, the production and direction of Tan Lines are a lot better than many reviewers would have you believe! A definite 3* film, ideal for a quiet night in!

I should have taken notice of the first reviewer. This "film" is absolute
rubbish from beginning to end.Acting is non existent, plot nowhere to be seen
even the sun seems to have forsaken Aussie land.Gay interest movie ? dont make me laugh please. Was it made by some A level equivalent students that had been given a camera and a note book to write down the script as they went along?...give it a miss please!

Wooden but strangely beautiful
So the performances are more wooden than a Chippendale cabinet, but the story is oddly touching and managed to break my heart-of-stone. Read more

plain awful
This is the most pointless drivel and excuse for a film ever. With no obvious plot or storyline the film unravels at a snails pace to no obvious or satisfying conclusion. Read more

A sweet and earnest tale
Some of the reviewers have been incredibly harsh on this film. Sure, the production values aren't out of this world, but the intentions are heartfelt and honest. Read more
