Vibration Compensation: Tamron’s In-Lens Image Stabilisation System
Zoom up to 600mm for images that soar

Capture the power and beauty of wildlife, birds, travel destinations, and exciting sports action close-ups with this high-performance 150-600mm long-range zoom. VC (Vibration Compensation) and USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) enable you to shoot crisp images of fast-moving, distant subjects handheld, while proprietary Tamron optical technology, including eBAND Coating, works to suppress flare and ghosting for impressively clear, vibrant images. Optical Technology Three LD (Low Dispersion) elements are effectively deployed to correct chromatic aberrations, a challenging problem when shooting at long distances and at long focal-length settings. Tamron's eBAND Coating and BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating help suppress flare and ghosting for exceptionally high image quality.

Tamron’s In-Lens Image Stabilisation System

Handheld camera shake is the leading cause of blurry and unsharp pictures. Many lenses are made with built-in optical image-stabilisation systems that sense the amplitude and direction of the shake and compensate by moving optical groups within the lens. Tamron’s Vibration Compensation (VC) system that’s built into the Tamron AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di VC LD Aspherical (IF) Macro and the Tamron AF18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di-II VC LD Aspherical (IF) Macro lenses performs a similar function, but executes it exceptionally effectively due to its design.

Super Performance for Discriminating Shooters Tamron SP (Super Performance) series is a line of ultra-high-performance lenses designed and manufactured to the specifications demanded by professionals and others who require the highest possible image quality. In creating SP lenses Tamron’s optical designers put their foremost priority on achieving superior performance parameters - they are all designed to exceptionally high standards. As a result, Tamron lenses bearing the SP designation feature designs aimed to provide excellence for those knowledgeable photographers that demand the very best.

eBAND (Extended Bandwidth and Angular-Dependency) Coating

This coating technique developed by Tamron deploys a nano-structured layer (1 nm = 1/1,000,000mm) of ultra-low refractive index, with dimensions smaller than the wavelengths of visible rays of light. This nano-structured layer coupled with the multiple layer coatings underneath, yields significant anti-reflection properties, efficiently reducing undesired flare and ghosting to an absolute minimum to deliver sharp, crisp images.

Moisture-resistant construction helps prevent moisture from penetrating the lens.

7 of 8 people found the following review helpful By Mr Baz #1 REVIEWER#1 HALL OF FAME on 23 Mar 2014
I was fortunate to be able to shoot with the Tamron 150-600mm lens for a few days, as a good friend of mine bought one.
I tested the lens on a 5dMkIII and my 70d.

Availability is difficult right now, stocks are limited but I can see why. The Tamron is probably one of the best lenses to come out of the company for some time, and once it's available on the 3 main mounts it's sure to be a top seller offering stiff competition for pricier OEM makers. Tamron have overall hit the mark here and very well

My quick fire summary
Pros:
+ Build quality is good, the lens feels solid and well put together, nice smooth zooming action, comes with a deep plastic hood
+ Image quality is excellent mostly across the range, with well controlled CA and distortion and good sharpness
+ AF is fast, very quiet, and with a good body still speedy enough at the top end of the zoom range, front element does not rotate. Has a focus limiter too which is very useful
+ Full time manual focus in AF mode
+ VC works very well I would say around 3.5-4 stops
+ Very nice contrast, and smooth rendering of out of focus areas, I like the images from this lens
+ Comes with tripod collar (I'd leave it on even hand held shooting)
+ Flare rarely and issue very well controlled
+ Excellent bang per buck for a serious telephoto lens

Cons:
- Sharpness does drop off a bit at the 500-600mm mark, I feel it's still quite decent at this level though (500mm feels sharper than 600mm), corners tighten up on a full frame stopping down a bit, some pincushion across the focal range (not huge though), vignetting at the 150 and 600mm mark (but not too bad)
- It's hefty enough at 1.95 kg, add your camera body to that. Can be hand held for shorter periods of time.
