Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

This is a new zoom lens from Tamron that lets you bring your far away subjects up close while compressing the distance between the main subject and the background for professional-looking results. Even while covering up to a 500mm that enables you to take ultra telephoto shots of subjects further than the eye can see, its design is extremely lightweight and compact. When mounted on an APS-C size digital SLR camera, it provides a focal length equivalent to a 760mm for super ultra telephoto imaging.

I bought this lens for a trip to Kenya during December 09. It exceeded my expectations. I had been concerned that it would need a tripod or I would end up with shaky pictures; I neednt have worried. I simply increased the ISO number to 500 and with the light being so good in the game parks I was able to rest it on the roof of the minibus we toured the parks in. I have some cracking pictures of lions that are so close you can count the fly's wings on their noses! The cheetah and leopard pictures are also superb. As an enthusiastic amateur that doesnt use the camera too often(I use a Nikon D90)I was delighted with the results and would recommend this lens without hesitation.

Style Name:For Canon
I recently got a chance to use this lens on a field trip and I was impressed by its performance.

It weights 800 and not very well balanced so it can be hard to use hand held and a tripod - monopod is recommended.

PROS

It difficult to find a 500 mm lens for a D-SLR for under 1000 GBP and even harder to find one that can make good pictures.

CONS.

At the 500 mm end the performance suffers a lot and one needs a still subject with a lot of light to produce good results ( as in the pictures ).

Without image stabiliser the pictures in low light are terrible.

The autofocus is a little slow and makes a lot of noise so sometimes is best MF in stead.

There is some mild colour changes at the edges.

Overall a decent budget super tele photo well priced but very far in performce from the canon 100-400 L IS
