Too Much Is Missing from 1960's Pop Films, 12 Jun 2004
This review is from: The Tami TNT Show - Rock 1964/1965 [DVD] (DVD)
This is a wasted opportunity to offer DVD buyers some classic 1960's performance films.
The two live concert shows were filmed separately in America and gathered together some top pop stars of the mid 1960's. The TAMI Show was filmed in 1964 and ran for 123 minutes and the Big TNT Show was filmed in 1965 and ran for 93 minutes. This will give you a hint of my problem with this DVD if you check the running time.
What we do have here are some truly classic performances amongst them the Stones, Marvin Gaye, Ike and Tina Turner, Jan and Dean and even the fabulous Ronettes. Great stuff without a doubt.
What we don't have are appearances at these shows by the Byrds, the Beach Boys, the Lovin'Spoonful, Donovan etc etc, They are all in the original films but chopped out of this edited DVD version. Shame on you!
The reason is that this DVD simply repackages an American TV show of the 1980's which mixed up both shows, cut loads out and put in unnecessary links from Chuck Berry. What a mess.
The cheapness of this release is emphasised by the poor sound and fuzzy picture - truly no expense has been taken.
The 2010 release of the TAMI Show in full shows how this material should be handled.
