Jane Graves has always been a favourite of mine, way back since I got you, babe. Her latest book, Tall tales and wedding veils is incredibly brilliant and funny. The heroine Heather is neat as a pin, logical and doesn't really date much. The hero Tony is messy, gorgeous and *dates* a different girl every night. But you know what everyone says: opposites attract!
Tony is buying a bar 'n' grill called McMillans with a silent partner investing 20,000 dollars. But when that investor backs out at the last minute he gets this crazy idea to try and make it in Vegas. Meanwhile... Heather is being subjected to her bitchy cousin's hen weekend in Vegas. She has always lusted after Tony from afar in the same bar he's buying now. They bump into each other after Tony has lost all hope and she offers to gamble a chip she found on the floor. Eventually she wins, shockingly enough, 20,000. They celebrate very hard and wake up in the morning...married. They agree to a quick divorce but things quickly get out of hand with Heather's crazy family, Tony's crazy bar and general craziness of the falling in love kind. It is brilliantly funny, incredibly sexy and all-around lovable. BUY THIS BOOK!!!! You defnitely will not regret it.

My first Jane Graves book but not my last,

Heather Montgomery is a CPA who's almost 30, a size 14, and considers herself very ordinary-looking - she's sorta the stereotype of a CPA. She'd like to someday find someone to marry but so far, no luck. She's stuck being a bridesmaid for her not-so-nice cousin who ordered Heather's bridesmaid dress one size too small and enjoys belittling Heather.
Heather and her friend Alison like to go to McMillan's the local bar/restaurant, enjoy the food, drinks, and the "view" - especially Tony McCafferty. Tony is gorgeous, charming, and doesn't ever "see" Heather when she's at the bar - she's too plain - he's one of those guys that likes gorgeous empty-headed blondes. Through a series of circumstances, both end up in Vegas, meet up with each other, drink way too much champagne and end up married. Unfortunately, Heather's family finds out about the wedding. Tony suggests that they pretend to be married for a month - it'll take that long for the annulment and Heather can save face with her family and at her cousin's wedding. As the month progresses, they learn about each other. Tony seems shallow, loving and leaving women, just out for a good time. But he's basically a good guy and the more you learn about him, the more human and likeable he becomes. Heather is great - someone you can relate to - she knows she's smart but as her aunt keeps reminding her, she's not married (the true definition of success in Heather's family). And while Heather knows that she's a success, there's a voice inside her that wants someone like Tony to look at her and want her. If you're looking for a well written romance novel with some great characters, this is it. I'm off to find more of this author's books! 16 of 17 people found the following review helpful:

There is a wonderful balance of deep emotions and light humor. The plot starts off with Heather and Tony each taking a trip to Vegas and ending up getting married. Through a series of mix ups and misunderstandings, they start pretending to be happily married. Then the story progresses through their experiences as they attempt to convince everyone else that they truly are happily married as they wait for their annulment. There are emotional highs and lows, lots of funny parts and some spicy love scenes. I loved this book and would definitely recommend it.

Tall Tales and Wedding Veils by Jane Graves is a book that will stay in your heart forever.
Heather Montgomery always does the right thing. As an accountant she likes order and planning in all aspects of her life. To please her family she agrees to be in a cousins wedding. This also involves a weekend bridesmaid's trip to Vegas. There she runs into sexy hometown hottie Tony McCaffrey. Tony McCaffrey is putting all his money into buying the local bar McMillan's. He came up $20,000.00 short so he tries his luck in Vegas. There bumps into Heather Montgomery a local girl he never noticed before. Tony decides Heather is his lucky charm and soon she is winning the money he needs. Next thing they realize they are hitched. Both agree to a quickie annulment but when her family finds out she is married they agree to stay married for a month to make them happy. But living together makes this unlikely couple look at each other with new eyes. Each learns something about themselves they didn't realize was there. Once the month is up will they go their separate ways or stay together? This book is an absolute keeper. It stayed with me long after I had finished reading. As Tony and Heather grow as individuals and as a couple you will find yourself routing for them to find their happy ever after. |
