Product Description

Forever unlucky in love, Saffron Harris has vowed never to fall for a good-looking rogue again. From now on, she'll only date plain men; men who'll appreciate her; men who won't cheat on her; men who won't break her heart. So when she meets the gorgeous Cory Roswell, Saffron decides he's not her type at all. Too tall, too dark and way too handsome. Multi-millionaire Cory, on the other hand, has tired of women after only one thing: his wallet. All he desires is a woman who'll love him for himself rather than his bank balance. He's therefore decided to be less than honest about his past. Despite this unpromising start, romance begins to blossom. But does a relationship based on lies ever stand a chance? It's only a matter of time before the mismatched lovers' secrets come bursting into the open - with surprising, and sometimes hilarious, results.

so stupid 18 July 2010

i am very disgusted that in this day and age you get people like this silly writer. i will not be reading her books again because she has crossed all the limits as a writter. i think for a writter to go this low what is the next step, i wounder? The writer needs to respect other relgions if she wants to make any money in the future.

Ok. So maybe my title is a little harsh. BUT i've read all of Ms Minhas's previous books, and found them hillarious and witty. I think my favourite one is marriage market. However, exactly what was Ms Minhas thinking here?!!
First of all there is the fact Ms Minhas loves writing about India, yet seems to have done literally no research into the culture, the language etc. For example, there is a reference to a Parveen Kaur - a gossip in India. Kaur is a Sikh surname and Parveen is a muslim one.
Then there is the little quotes in Hindi which as far as I know are not Hindi. The translation was atrocious and if anything, gibberish! I know Hindi fairly well and I didn't get it.
Then there is the religion bashing. To give her credit, Ms Minhas didn't just disrespect the religion of Islam, she ripped into other religions too. Yet as I was reading the book, I couldn't help but feel that Ms Minhas was the most disrespectful to Islam - references to Quran's being smuggled in nappies - not funny at all. And the whole scene where the main character burns the Quran was not even necessary in the writing of the book - it was just there, one minute the story's flowing and then bam! The character is burning the Quran.
I found that extremely offensive, and I'm sorry I even bought the book. I won't be reading you again.
Books are for entertainment, not conveying your misguided prejudices.

Minhas is a good writer and I really couldn't wait to read her latest! But I have wasted my time in reading it (believe me I couldn't even finish it!) What was she thinking? As a Muslim, I found it highly offensive not to mention appalling! From this one onwards, I doubt I'd be reading her books ever again!
