Book Description

5 Mar 2012
With the candid quirkiness of Awkward Family Photos and the confessional intimacy of PostSecret, Ransom Riggs's Talking Pictures is a haunting collection of antique found photographs—with evocative inscriptions that bring these lost personal moments to life—from the author of the New York Times bestselling illustrated novel Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Each image in Talking Pictures reveals a singular, frozen moment in a person’s life, be it joyful, quiet, or steeped in sorrow. Yet the book’s unique depth comes from the writing accompanying each photo: as with the caption revealing how one seemingly random snapshot of a dancing couple captured the first dance of their 40-year marriage, each successive inscription shines like a flashbulb illuminating a photograph’s particular context and lighting up our connection to the past.

5.0 out of 5 stars Talking Pictures Review. 12 Dec 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is entirely made up of "found" vernacular snapshots that have been annotated by their long lost owners. If you are interested in old snapshots and you have a heart and imagination you will love this book. It is funny in turn, charming and poignant. It will make you yearn to know more about these anonymous faces..Lovely book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating & Unusual ... Non Fiction ... 31 Oct 2012

Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Fantastic collection of old photo's by the Author of Miss Peregrine's
Home for Peculiar Children which I also loved, and led me to look for
other books by Ransom Riggs

Love this book its like looking at an old scrapbook or old photo album
also shows the reverse of photo if written on ... Funny to sad and all
in between.
Packed with pages of interesting old photo's.

Please note this book is not fiction, and Not the
Sequel to 'Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children'
There is no story line, but does have plenty to read along side and
about the photo's

Makes a great & unusual coffee table book.
Lovely Book ....

I'm a photography student and I love the phenomenon of found images. There is something very romantic about film and the mystery of unknown people.
