Steve Winwood - Revolutions

Biography

Winwood was just a teenager when he rocketed into the international spotlight as the prodigious singer of the Spencer Davis Group (which also featured his brother Muff on bass). The blues and R&B-influenced rock of “Gimme Some Lovin’” and “I’m a Man” stood among the leading hits at the peak of the British Invasion, Winwood’s singing drawing ... 5.0 out of 5 stars A great album 2 Sep 2002
Format:Audio CD
The's something in the album for everyone. If you've come to Steve Winwood through 'Back in the high life' (like me) or 'Chronicles', you can't go far wrong with this album, which'll show what a talented singer songwriter he is.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic songs.... slightly dated sound 4 Aug 2004
By not_a_real_folkie VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
Steve Winwood was hitting his stride as a solo artist when "Talking Back to the Night" came out in 1982. Recorded almost entirely with only Stevie's keyboards, vocals and a state-of-the-art drum machine, it sounded absolutely great on vinyl in '82. First track "Valerie" even had a second of life in 1986 when the single charted in a remixed form.

These are great songs - really, amongst Steve Winwood's best. The sound just knocks it off the 5-star rating for me, though. Thick, analogue synths, just on the wrong side of "classic", and that state-of-the-art drum machine plant it firmly in 1982. Only perhaps "And I Go", with its swirling Hammond, sounds anything like timeless. Yet these are superb songs, Winwood's voice is on top form, and it's a supremely enjoyable record.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Excellent 18 Dec 2012
Format:MP3 Download|Amazon Verified Purchase
Steve Winwood has had a long and varied career but definitely one of the highlights must be his first 3 solo albums which culminated in 1982 with this excellent album. Very keyboard / synth based some may think it would sound dated but the tunes are timeless and it sounds as fresh as ever. A mix of styles from the more upbeat Valerie and Still in the Game to fantastic ballads like the final track There's a River the album doesn't have a bad track perhaps best of all is the title track pure genius. I had been hoping it would be remastered and re-released but not yet anyway so I downloaded it for a very reasonable price and very glad a did.
