Book Description

30 Jun 1997 Talkabout
This hugely popular photocopiable manual provides professionals with a framework for the development of social skills. Initially piloted on adolescents with mild learning difficulties, it can be used with a variety of client groups, both children and adults. Beginning with a basic assessment procedure to evaluate the client's self-awareness, as well as the awareness of others, it is divided into six levels: 1.Improving the awareness of self and others, including physical appearance, likes, dislikes and problem solving; 2.Allowing clients to assess their own communication skills; 3.Taking the client through eight levels of body language; 4.'Talkabout the way we talk' improving paralinguistic skills; 5.Taking the client through the processes needed to improve conversational and listening skills; 6.Awareness and use of assertiveness skills. Practical and user-friendly, this comprehensive workbook is an essential resource for therapists running social skills groups.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended for parents and teaching staff 31 Jan 2010
Format:Spiral-bound
I purchased this package a few years ago as I have an autistic son. I am also a special needs teaching assistant specialising in autism, so purchased the set again for the school. It is not only useful for autistic children, but for all children who have a special need, whether it is behaviour, social, emotional. I would recommend this for parents or teaching staff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Brilliant! 17 Mar 1999
By A Customer
Format:Spiral-bound
Anyone working with social communication will want this book. It is clear, well-organised, structured for flexibility and attractive to the population it serves. It clearly outlines important pragmatic skills, making the students aware of conversation and how it works. It is photocopiable throughout and the students are encouraged by the most wonderful cartoon illustrations, which gives this book such an individual quality... This is a great wee social skills book, it enabled me to ask our support group to organise a wee social group for our sad children who find social occasions very hard, they are really enjoying the fortnightly meetings and this is because of the activities in this great book
