What a great read this book is!
Part sports biography, part modern social history and part travel book.
It's very well written and gives a tremendous insight into the machinations within rugby union in the last 20 years of the 20th century as the game became professional around the world. Townsend does not mince words and some pre-conceived notions of mine were certainly challenged.
I recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in rugby or sporting politics or to anyone who just wants to read a sporting autobiography written by one of the best scottish rugby players of the last 30 years.
