Biography

The Psychedelic Furs have earned tremendous respect from critics and fans alike for their music’s mix of punk rock, poetic lyricism and seductive rhythmic hooks. Fronted by vocalist and chief songwriter, Richard Butler, The Furs built a reputation as one of the most riveting musical forces to come out of the early 80s post-punk, new wave era. The band charted big hits with "Love My ... Read more in Amazon's The Psychedelic Furs Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Ten of all time 15 Oct 2004
Format:Audio CD
The Furs are probably amongst the best bands never to be big. I first heard their debut, self titled album back in Australia in the late 70's, bought it on the strength of Sister Europe and India. And then came one of the best albums ever recorded.... Talk Talk Talk. Truly superb, hard, melodic, raw. Everything that was good about post punk, and by a band that knew how to write. Butler's raw scratch vocals are blisteringly tough. They made five quality albums, this is the best.... and then they lost the plot in the USA. Still I listen to this every week. Buy It!

I first heard this in 1981 on vinyl and it has never been very far from reach since. The original and definitive version of 'Pretty in Pink' is surrounded by tracks that show the full range of the Furs. The reflective 'All of this and Nothing' and 'She is Mine' combined with the raw energy of 'Mr Jones', 'I just wanna sleep with you' and 'So run down'.
This CD is in the car most days and would be on my 'desert island CD list'. It just grows and grows on you and it doesn't seem to age. Buy it, you won't regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Super Furs 15 May 2013

First saw the Furs 1980 in Sheffield - they were out of this world.
This is an excellent CD but doesn't match the self titled fist album, which had a more raucus and more diverse range of songs. Whilst very good, some of the tracks on here are quite similar.
In my opinion, anything released after this was fairly ordinary, too mainstream.
