Product Description

Talisker 10 Year Old 70cl

Talisker 10 Year Old 70cl
About Talisker

The perfect dram to sit and savour at the end of the day, Talisker 10 Year Old is sure to satisfy the most discerning of whisky connoisseurs. An absolute essential for lovers of the highest quality spirits. Deep and stormy like the ocean crashing over the rocky shores of its island distillery, Talisker is the only Single Malt Scotch Whisky rugged enough to call the Isle of Skye its home.

Talisker has attained a sterling reputation and this hugely popular Single Malt continues to enjoy global success, receiving impressive accolades at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Though the Talisker distillery is far from large, its capacity is rather modest at less than two million litres and impressive sales of 100,000 cases annually.

Talisker distillery's process water is drawn from twenty-one underground springs that rise from Hawk Hill (Cnoc nan Speirag) beside the distillery. These same springs have fed the Talisker distillery from the beginning. As its name suggests, the hill is home to birds of prey, usually including Peregrines. A truly elemental malt, Talisker 10 Year Old's profile keeps increasing as more fans discover the intense coastal spicy, peaty character.

Much Awarded

Distinctive, easily recognised and bottled at the unusual strength of 45.8% ABV, Talisker is one of the most awarded Single Malt Scotch Whiskies in the world. Talisker has been the only Single Malt Scotch Whisky distilled beside the sea on Skye since 1830, with its elemental style truly reflecting its maritime surroundings. The name is thought to come from the old Norse for Sloping Rock, ‘Thalas Gair’. Talisker is the only distillery on the Isle of Skye.

Palate, Finish and Taste

A rich dried-fruit sweetness with clouds of smoke and strong barley-malt flavours, warming and intense. Peppery at the back of the mouth.

Huge, long, warming and peppery in the finish with an appetising sweetness.

The powerful, sweet-smoky pepperiness & saltiness of Talisker 10 Year Old Isle of Skye Single Malt Scotch Whisky are best enjoyed from a rocking glass, neat or on the rocks.

Talisker 10 Year Old 70cl
Suggested Serve and Food Match

Talisker is best enjoyed from a Rocking glass, neat or on the rocks. The character of Talisker, powerful, smoky-sweet and peppery, is ideal with smoky seafood, dark chocolate or Comté cheese.

Other Products in the Range

Talisker 18 Year Old: Sweet in front, then more assertive, with a whiff of smoke. The overall effect is warming. The development is towards smoke, coal-tar and toffee.

Talisker Distiller’s Edition: Crisp peat then softens to great richness in the mouth. Sweet, roasty malt with heathery dryness. Sherry notes keep back some pepper. In its place is luscious, slightly oily sweetness with juicy fruit and vanilla.

I have bought more Talisker than any other single malt and despite the almost limitless choice of other whiskies available I still find myself yearning to go back to Talisker 10, it's one of my 'all-round' favourite whiskies.

It has quite a heavy smoky/peaty flavour with a hit of sea water/weed so it's not something everyone will get along with but it's balanced perfectly with a sweet fruitiness like you get from Speyside or Highland whisky's along with a fair bit of spice. Most reviews mention pepper but I get more nutmeg and cinnamon than anything and perhaps a touch of cloves and ginger. One thing's for sure it's certainly not in danger of being called a bland whisky. So if you don't like smoky whiskies then it's probably best to stay away, however this is so good it'll probably convert you.

A good surprise upon tasting. Decently complex nose, good hit of flavour and a good smooth drink without the rough edge and burn you generally get from a 10 year old. It is not Jura smooth but then it has a lot more going on than Jura 10.

Well worth trying.

Actually, this is THE whisky from Skye - Talisker is, surprisingly, the only distillery on that island. Islay, Jura and many of the other Hebrides have many more, Islay being the jewel in the crown. Talisker is often ranked with Laphroaig as the peatiest of all single malts, although it doesn't have quite such a pronounced "TCP" taste. However, you'd be well advised to steer clear of it if you like your whisky smooth and mellow!

The Talisker distillery on the west coast of Skye is amazingly busy, for such an isolated spot. If you turn up at random, you may well find you have to wait for a place on one of the guided tours - although it's worth it. (As is the scenery on the way there and back).

Delivery was swift and the precious bottle was lovingly packed in two concentric boxes and plenty of brown paper, in addition to its own heavy cardboard tube. Best of all, the price was exceedingly bargainous, which makes anything taste even better to the true Scot!

A single malt whisky from Skye, this is not your Aldi "Queen Bess" rubbish. This is a very robust whisky with a strong peaty flavour. Now, I've heard whiskey described as "peaty" many a time and, never having chewed a lump of Highland compost it means nothing to me. In fact, the taste is strong, smoky and medicinal more like toffee flavoured TCP than John MacInnes No. 4. There is also an unctuous oily texture on the tongue that you've never experienced in anything you've ever drunk. That might be enough to put you off if the best you've ever tried is Johnny Walker, but give this a go.

This distinctive tipple isn't a whisky to get smashed on, but neither is it to be taken lightly - it's an education for your taste buds.

I enjoy an occasional malt whisky and decided to buy this bottle on Amazon's Daily Deal.
My very first taste was not pleasant to be honest, I'd never tasted a whisky with such an "in your face" smokiness, I felt like I was drinking the equivalent of an Arbroath Smokie, but after a few drams this whisky has really grown on me.
I no longer get the pungent smokiness I experienced at first, now I appreciate the depth of flavour that Skye has to offer, to be honest I think it's great now.
So basically, if like me, you're turned off by your first taste of Talisker Skye I would say give it a chance, it has a lot to offer, I think I'll buy it again.

Edit: I just discovered that this review was meant for Talker Skye, Im not quite sure why it ended up here, apologies to anyone who has been misled by this review. I have never tasted Talker 10 year old.

We have been giving this to my 98 year old relative for the last few years and although he is 'Housebound' and unable to come and join us for Xmas and Boxing Day, we always give him one of these and he only has 1 wish.....that we stay for an hour to drink some with him.

Although I find that it costs more than a lot of other brands, there is a good reason and justification, it tastes delicious and puts most others to shame.

It has 45.8% alcohol content and although the manufacturers taste testing experts accurately and descriptively describe it as "Powerful peat-smoke with seawater saltiness, Rich dried-fruit sweetness with clouds of smoke and strong barley malt flavours warming and intending at the back of your mouth and sweet malty flavours that blend into a smoky climax", I can confirm that it does taste delicious and although I don't usually like whiskey, this is somehow different. My description would be "sweet-y, salty, smoky and powerful".
