Book Description

The man he is sworn to protect is the man who butchered his family.

Justices—the select of the Talions, endowed with fearsome magick and lethal martial skills—roam the Shattered Empire, crushing the lawless and championing the oppressed. Their word is law and their judgment binding on highborn and low.

Nolan is a Justice born in what once was the free nation of Sinjaria. Orphaned in the war of conquest with the nation of Hamis, he traveled to far Talianna and secured the right to become a Justice. Now, years later, the Master of all Talions has a dangerous assignment for Nolan: he is to guard the life of the king who destroyed Sinjaria and slaughtered his family. Alone, Nolan ventures into the political maelstrom that is the court of Hamis to stop an assassin even his Masters think cannot be slain...

5.0 out of 5 stars One for the most engaging books I've ever read. 3 Dec. 1998
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This is the first of Mike's non-Star Wars books that I have read. It will not be the last. I don't usually like fantasy (I'm a "hard" SciFi being). But this book was great. The characters are REAL, they react to events in a believable way. The magic is consistent and believable, no more fantastic and flighty than hyperspace or the Force. The supporting characters are a treat, well done and three dimensional. I really enjoyed the way Mike wove Nolan's past and present together. The training of the young Talions was informative and fascinating. Made me want to go out and join up! ( I want to be an Elite . . . you'll just have to read the book to find out why) I found Nolan's humanity very refreshing. Nolan's ways of using his power and authority are reminiscent of Corran Horn and Luke Skywalker. If you enjoyed Mike's X-Wing books and I, Jedi, you will really love Talion:Revenant. I can't wait to get my hands on Mike's other books!

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent reading - a must for all fantasy lovers 26 Feb. 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I read a lot of fantasy books and have come to enjoy the works of mr. stackpole alot. Talion was an excellent book. I enjoyed the style in which it was written. the flashbacks every other chapter provided excellent insight and depth to Nolan. i agree with several other reviews and feel the book could have benifitted from more development of the other characters. My only real knock is that the ending seemed rushed. I tend to enjoy the epic or sagas alot and feel that there is plenty of room for mr. stackpole to continue writing. perhaps this would not have left me feeling the end was rushed. all told though, i enjoy the writings of mr. stackpole and reccomend this book to any and all lovers of fantasy as well as mr. stackpoles other works :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book that I have ever read 27 May 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I recieved a copy of this book from a friend, before I got it I never read anything fantasy, after this book I became a major fan and make it a point to read anything Stackpole puts into print. While the constant changing points in time was a little hard to grasp at first it was important if you want to pick up as much of the story as you can, parts of the later time line leech off the earlier. Once you start you will find that it is hard to put down, this is the first and only book that made me wish that I had to work a few more hours. The only disappointment that I have with Talion is that is so far it is the only one, no sequal yet. Can always hope.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book 27 Mar. 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Talion is without doubt one of the best books I've read. The main character feels very real as he struggles both to complete his assignment and to revenge himself on his enemies. The moral dilemma pose by the author in this is very compelling.
I'm generally not a fan of books that weave back and forth through time but the author really does a good job of relating the events in the past to what the hero is doing right now.
I woud highly recommend this book there is no question that is will be well worth the read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply excellent, you just want more and more... 14 July 1997
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Talion : Revenant is simply one the best single book i've ever read. It's easy to read, you can see easily the world in which the caracter is living. It's the hero who tells his story, and let me tell you that Stackpole really had it! The link between the pass of the caracter (his youth and his training) and his present is magnificantly built. Stackpole really did it with this one! It's a must be read to all fantasy lovers.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!! 5 April 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I'm a big star wars fan and I needed a break from all that stuff even though it is great. So I decided to read this by Stackpole, my favorite author and the author of the X-Wing novels. This was also my first fantasy novel. This book turned out to be the best I ever read. While the way he writes it is confusing because he goes from when Nolan's a novice to when he's a full justice chapter by chapter, you get the swing of it later on in the book. Toward the end it got a little confusing, but after finishing it I looked back on what I read and I began to understand it. If you want a GREAT book, this is what you need.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good book that was hard to put down 5 Aug. 1998
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
The only reason that this book didn't receive the full 5 stars from me is due to the plot. If the plot was a little deeper it would have been a better read. The author could have fleshed out the relationships a little better so that the reader cared more about the side characters.
The concepts put forth such as the Judges and the training ground were good. The description of the world and how it works was rich with detail. This was the aspect of the book I enjoyed most.
This is definitely on my recommended reading list.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's a good read
Good story but I think some of the events has been stretched too much where reader could lose interest. Overall it's a good read.
