I started to read someone else's copy of this, but soon had to buy my own, as I was quickly hooked. It's a fast moving tale, and though I found the constant switching from Atlantis to Britain a mite irritating I got used to it. I did feel, however, that it was hurriedly written, that Stephen Lawhead sometimes made it up as he went along without even rereading his material; thus we have Charis as 'the youngest of Avallach's five children' on page 21, yet by page 37 she has two younger brothers! This sort of inconsistency plagues the whole series, but the fact that Lawhead gets away with it - as well as the sudden leaps forward in time that occur - is a sign of the novel's strong appeal. It was good, but with more care it could have been better!
