If you made your way here, I don't think I have to go too in depth about the Tales series and the fact that it is Japanese. Unfortunately this great game did not get a Western release (PS3), but luckily for us Japanese speakers, we can still enjoy one of the best Tales games to this date through importing.
For those that have played a Tales game before, the mechanics and combat is pretty much the same. Although there are much appreciated refinements and additions, such as beautiful Hi-Ougi, greater importance on equipment and skill setting, slick and easy combo chaining. Though if I were to complain it would be that game is too easy on the default setting.
Now to the most important part; the story and the cast. Vesperia has a very engrossing story with memorable characters that develop as the story plays out. You will love all the characters by the end of the game. Which is a standard in Tales games, but I felt that they did an especially good job with the Vesperia cast. The story is fresh and never feels tried, Vesperia has one of the best stories in the Tales series. And of course the voice acting is excellent. I have played this game 5 times and still don't skip scenes or skits(which you can do).
This is the best looking Tales game before Xillia. You will see the return of enhanced animated scenes and in game cell shading. I've played quite the few JRPGs and I can easily say that Vesperia is one of my favorite to look at.
For those of you unaware or wanting to know, there are minor but still major differences between the Xbox and PS3 release. These being off the top of my head: More Hi-Ougi (even dual with Flynn and Yuri), Two new party members; Flynn and Patty, tie ins to ~The First Strike~, new places to explore, new costumes and some other things. And oh more voice acting if not fully voiced.
Pros: Great story and cast, beautiful in game and cut scene, fun combat (that can include 3 others [as in living beings]), great voice acting, tons of cool extra content, helps you pronounce those tough Kanji, and a lot of game to play (You can easily put in a lot of hours into a Tales game, and this is a very good thing).
Cons: Combat is easy unless adjusted, ummm... I don't anything else besides that Raven could have been appreciated more by the cast and Judith could have worn more clothing. And oh Amazon doesn't seem to restock this too often, so you will have to order from someone else, I always go with AkihabaraGames but you can choose whomever you are comfortable with.
Importing the PS3 release of Vesperia is worth every dollar, every Tales fan and most JRPG players will like if not love this game. For Japanese speakers only, I'd like to remind.
