Review

'A world of enchantment opens before us in Hugh Lupton's Tales of Wisdom and Wonder. Strikingly stylized illustrations and decorative motifs add to the magic.' --Junior Education

About the Author

Hugh Lupton has been a professional storyteller for the past two decades. He has written many other titles for Barefoot Books, including The Story Tree + CD. When Hugh isn't performing in festivals around the world, he resides in East Anglia. Niamh Sharkey, an award-winning Irish illustrator, graduated from the College of Marketing and Design, Ireland, in 1994 with First Class Honours. She works in oils on a gessoed textured background to create the richness in colour that has already established her as a world class illustrator. Niamh has illustrated a number of best-selling titles at Barefoot Books: Tales from Old Ireland + CD, The Gigantic Turnip + CD and Tales of Wisdom and Wonder.

This is a delightful book in every way. The tales, collected from sources as diverse as North America, Russia, France and Scotland amongst others are beautifully re-told in an idiom and intimate style ideally suited to imaginative young minds. The illustrations are original, tasteful and most engaging. The CD is sure to hold a young audience whether at home or school. All the components come together beautifully to make a captivating whole. A lovely present for any child.

Moreover I really liked the cd and so did my class. They enjoyed all of the different stories.

Ohhh, I loved these stories by Hugh Lupton, and I love Niamh Sharkey's incredible illustrations. It's a magical combination that my daughter and I have loved from aged 4-8. A lovely present also.

The stories in this book are some I hadn't come across before. They will make a great addition to the ones I use in the classroom.
