About the Author

Irene Holland is 84 and lives in Tiverton, Devon, with her husband, Kaye. They have seven children who have all danced professionally and 13 grandchildren. Since the 1950s Irene has run her own dance school and still teaches five days a week at The Willow Tree Centre of Dance and Performing Arts, where she has over 200 pupils. She says she has no intention of retiring and is still known to do the odd high kick, especially after a tipple of her favourite red wine!

Heather Bishop is Irene’s co-writer. Heather is a journalist with 16 years experience of writing, editing and commissioning true-life stories for newspapers and women’s magazines.

Recommended to me by a friend. Not the kind of book I normally read, but I loved it. It took me into a world I know nothing about and reminded me of Sunday Night at the London Palladium, which was such a feature of the week when I was growing up. Lot's of name-dropping, lots of people who later became famous. Altogether a light and interesting read.

A truly fantastic read. Recommend this book to everyone, it's brilliant account of a young girl who struggles through a lonely childhood to achieve her dream of becoming a professional dancer.

Fascinating book, detailing life in london in wartime Britain as well as life in the most famous dance troupe ever. I couldn't put it down. It made me feel sad for the young Irene who was left to fend for herself, inspired by the experiences she had and thrilled to hear backstage stories. What an inspirational woman.
A must read.

Great book. Very interesting, but then I'm biased because it's my Mum on the front of the line up on the front cover ! ( who by the way is still alive and kicking.
