4.0 out of 5 stars Family Fun, 18 July 2010
By M. Dowden (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)    (TOP 100 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Tales Of The Riverbank [DVD] (DVD)
I vaguely remember watching Tales of the Riverbank when I was little, with my sister and mum and so I was curious what this film would be like. I must admit that I enjoyed it and so will little children. The animals are puppets, and they are really good. With lots of action, derring-do and adventure, there is also slapstick and fun here. There are some in-jokes with other films that adults will get, as well as such things as girl hamsters dancing around their handbags. With planes, jeeps, water craft and a helicopter there is a lot to keep you entertained.

When GP comes across a factory called WMD (Waffles, Marmalade and Doughnut Corporation) he is shocked at the pollution that is being created. When Sonia, a singing glamour mouse from the Deep South is kidnapped, GP, Hammy and Roderick know that they have to do something. Meeting Lady Much the rabbit and her friend Betty the psychic hamster they soon gather other friends and set out to stop the machinations of WMD, and the fat cats who own it. Meeting up with B.U.R.P. an underground resistance movement things are in place to blow up WMD and effect a daring escape plan for Sonia.

Really there is nothing to dislike about this movie that will have the whole family laughing along, it just seems a disappointment that this hasn't been advertised as much as it should have been.

Children will love this film, I don't know why this one has had no publicity because it's a really good family movie with lots of familiar voices and a great mix of live action and animation I have bought it for my children who are 6 and 4 for christmas , I sneaked a watch of it whilst they were at school and I know they will love it as much as I did, it's a bargain!
