Are you looking for something that is interesting, amusing, gripping, enthraling & well.. something that's just a real good read?
Yes?
Then you may want to get yourself a copy of this book... put up your 'Do not disturb' sign & open the cover... but I warn you now... once you have picked this up you are going to find it hard to put back down.
Now it says on the cover that this book was compiled from original manuscripts found in the home of one Archibald Olrig Campbell, a soldier & a writer who was born in early 19th century, & he was so inspired by the manuscripts (found during his childhood) that he published a book... this one... now modernised so we can understand ye olde wording... how much lost or added in translation... who knows? I don't... anyone read the original? Would love to hear from you if you have.
The story may seem a tad 'far fetched' for any logicaly minded person to believe it could ever be fact.. however you must remember the setting for this tale... and in those times magic truly was in the air.
The Scenario... four prisoners are held captive in the 'Pit' below Bamburgh Castle in the bloody dark ages of Northumbria... four prisoners who know once the sun rises over the North East Coast their lives will be taken as they swing from the gallows... four prisoners with a story or two to tell... Nine tales full of suspense, intrigue, magic & murder.
..... 'Set mainly in ninth century Scotland this novel describes the bloody adventures of an assassin, told to his companions as they await execution.'
What did I not like about this book... the ending... though I will not say why for fear of ruining this for you...
