I am 9 years old here is my opinion of this book.
This story is about an adventurous Guinea Pig called Olga da Polga.
Olga is bought by Karen Sawdust who takes her home in a motor car, which is a big adventure for a guinea pig. When they get home she meets Noel the cat. Olga tries to impress Noel with increasingly boastful stories. She meets new friends Graham the Tortoise and Fangio the hedgehog. Fangio encourages her to escape from her run, but the outside world is not what she expected and she is really grateful when the Sawdust family find her, cold and injured, and take her home. She makes an amazing recovery after watching the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy on TV!
The story ends on Christmas day when Olga receives a present from Father Christmas.
I really enjoyed this story because,Michael Bond has made the animal characters come to life.

Micheael Bond creator of Paddington Bear wrote this book about a guinea pig named Olga da Polga once owned by his daughter. Olga starts life in a Suburban pet shop before being rescued by Karen Sawdust who takes her to live in the sawdust family's back garden. Olga makes many new friends with the other Sawdust pets and wildlife in the Garden, queen of the tall tale, she even has a run in with the Surrey Panther! A must for all childrens bookshelves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much loved children's story book 18 Feb 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I read this book when I was aged between eight and eleven. We had a reading workshop at school and this was one of the books recommended.

It was a much loved and treasured book in my youth that still gives me fond memories even after twenty odd years! Having mislaid my original copy, I am extremely pleased to find that this book will again be available, especially as my two young nieces have pet guineapigs and should enjoy the stories every bit as much as I did all those years ago. In fact, I'm looking forward to reading this book again!!

Anyone that loved being told stories as a child (or even as an adult!) will love the imagination of Olga Da Polga. Definately up there with Hamlyn and Hans Christian Anderson.

5.0 out of 5 stars Olga da Polga 13 Jun 2007
Format:Paperback
I first read this book when I was about 10 years old when I had a few guinea pigs of my own. I recently re-read it (I'm now 44) and enjoyed it just as much as I did all those years ago. The combination of Michael Bond's writing style and illustrations by Hans Helweg make this book and the rest of the series a real gem whatever age you are. I'd suggest all guinea pig owners read it to understand what their pets really need to make them happy!

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect Christmas present! 3 Dec 2011
By Vivs
Format:Hardcover
I've always loved Olga da Polga, but this edition is the best by MILES ... the pictures are completely and utterly wonderful. Catherine Rayner has captured the essence of Olga in the most endearing way, and the stories are beautifully refreshed by the vitality of her drawing. It's the perfect present for any child between 4 and 9 - AND for parents who remember reading it when they were young!

5.0 out of 5 stars Olga da Polga 9 Nov 2011
Format:Hardcover
I read the Olga da Polga books when I was a kid and am now reading them to my 7-year old daughter. This book has stood the test of time and both of us absolutely loved it. Michael Bond is famous for Paddington Bear, but I think Olga is even more engaging and endearing character. His writing is brilliant and will enrapture you, regardless of age. I enjoyed reading it just as much now as I did when I was 7, unlike some more recent kids books I have to plough through at bedtime (repetitive-plot fairy books anyone?). And of course Catherine Rayner's fabulous drawings bring Olga to life. Buy this book! You won't regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Childhood favourite 2 Feb 2008

I was given the Olga Da Polga books when I was a little girl because I was and still am crazy about guineapigs (I currently have 8 of them!). I really loved the stories told from the guineapigs perspective, I found them truly entertaining. I still enjoy reading them now and have my originals which I read to my own children. I see that since I was a girl there have been additions to the series and I am going to buy them!
