More About the Author

Julia Donaldson, the 2011-2013 Children's Laureate, is the outrageously talented, prize-winning author of the world's most-loved picture books including The Gruffalo and What the Ladybird Heard.

The Gruffalo, illustrated by Axel Scheffler, is now a children's classic and publishing phenomenon; celebrating 15 years in 2014, selling over 3 million copies worldwide, was voted Great Britain's favourite bedtime story on BBC Radio 2 and was adapted and broadcast as an animation on BBC 1 on Christmas Day 2009. The Gruffalo's Child and Room on the Broom are now also films, with Room on the Broom shortlisted for an Academy Award in 2014. Julia Donaldson's most recent books with Axel Scheffler include Superworm (2012), Highway Rat (2011), Tabby McTat (2010), Stick Man (2009) and Tiddler (2008).

Julia Donaldson has also published work with David Roberts, Nick Sharratt, Emily Gravett, Rebecca Cobb, and Lydia Monks. Her collaboration with Lydia Monks began in 2003, with the first collection of Princess Mirror-Belle stories. The fabulously glittery Sugarlump and the Unicorn is their sixth, and most recent, picture book collaboration. She also writes poems, plays, songs and fiction for older children and, together with her husband Malcolm, has performed her wonderful stage shows all over the world.

This is great for my daughters. At 18months they love the pictures, only thing is as it is a paper book it tears easily - but they love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for 2 year olds 31 Jan 2006
Our little girl loves this book, and so do we - especially the page where squirrel has off-loaded the basket of washing on to rabbit. Rabbit's frown is priceless...

A Kid's Review
It's very sweet and my little boy can't wait to open the flaps to try and find hen.
I would buy another Acorn Wood book. I also have other Julia Donaldson books which he loves.

Love this series of books and so does my grandson. He always enjoys 'reading' along and joining in. A particular favourite at any time of the day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely books 21 May 2014

We already had the other 3 books in this series which had been bought as presents and were much loved by my little boy (just over a year old). He loves this one just as much too. They are very well made, with lovely lift the flap to reveal the picture. The only problem I have now is that he is at the phase of ripping off the flaps so need to keep these books out of reach if I want them to stay like they are!

My 9 month old loves this!

She lifts the flaps to find the animals and looks up for the round of applause we give her! Great rhymes and brilliant illustrations, makes me chuckle when reading it to her!

A must for Gruffalo fans!
